Ideal weight for a 6'2" man
In kilograms, for Indian adults, using the Asian-Indian healthy BMI band.
A man of 6 feet 2 inches (188.0 cm) has a healthy weight range of 65.4 kg to 80.9 kg — that is 144 to 178 lb — using the Asian-Indian healthy BMI band of 18.5 to 22.9.
On the standard WHO scale the range extends to 88.0 kg, because that scale allows BMI up to 24.9 before calling it overweight. The 7.1 kg between the two is exactly the difference this site exists to explain.

Highlighted rows fall in the healthy band on the Asian-Indian scale (BMI 18.5–22.9). BMI = weight in kg ÷ (height in metres)². Height taken as 188.0 cm.
How this range was worked out
188.0 cm → 1.8796 m · 18.5 × 1.88² = 65.4 kg · 22.9 × 1.88² = 80.9 kg
No adjustment is applied for sex, because BMI has no sex term. A man and a woman of 6'2" get the same range from this method. That is a real limitation rather than an oversight — women carry more essential body fat at a healthy weight, and BMI cannot see it. The women and BMI guide covers what that means in practice.
The Devine reference
For a male of 6'2", the Devine formula gives 82.2 kg. It is shown because people search for it, not because it is better. It was published in 1974 as an aid to drug dosing, it returns a single number, and it takes no account of build.

What ±5 kg looks like here
| Weight | BMI | Asian-Indian | Standard WHO |
|---|---|---|---|
| 63 kg | 17.8 | Underweight | Underweight |
| 68 kg | 19.2 | Normal | Normal |
| 73 kg (middle of range) | 20.7 | Normal | Normal |
| 78 kg | 22.1 | Normal | Normal |
| 83 kg | 23.5 | Overweight | Normal |
Five kilograms moves BMI by about 1.4 points at this height — which is why a 5 kg change matters more for a shorter person than a taller one.

What does the Devine formula give for 6'2"?
